HOW THINGS WERE

Wooden sculpture

h: 26 w: 32 d: 13 (cms).

I work with salvaged wood to create organic abstract sculptures.  It is important to me that the wood I use is salvaged. Recycling brings new life to an abandoned object and allows an unknown element to the sculpture, encouraging my inventiveness. The process is very important; everything is cut, joined and constructed by hand. I try never to use a nail or a screw, but wooden pegs and glue to hold things together.

This piece was made during lock-down. I used off cuts from previous sculptures as well as found wooden objects. It is as things were, and now has become as things are.

salvaged wood

h: 44 w: 30 d: 15 (cms).

This piece is made from salvaged wood - in fact from unwanted broom handles and dowling pieces. Each piece is cut by hand, sanded, glued and painted.

I was interested to see the combination of the dowels fitting together in cross section and lengthways. It is a very simple piece in some ways, but I hope arresting.

WINTER TREE

salvaged wood

h: 32 w: 25 d: 17 (cms).

This sculpture was my response to lock down and winter - gazing out at the leafless trees and longing for change. The wood I used was both off cuts and recycled wooden objects such as a sofa leg and children's bricks.
