Oil on canvas

h: 46 w: 56 d: 3 (cms).

Figurative, surreal still life depicting coloured square frames leaning against a wall.

An imagined, intricate still life in which unfamiliar objects, pinned and pulled, interact with organic forms to create an intriguing and seductive sculptural composition.

An exercise in challenging visual understanding through the application of colour, line and tone on a flat surface.

Also a study of how gender and the perceived gender of places, objects and colours, affect the reading of an image. Still life is often seen as a softer, more feminine art discipline. Through the subject matter, scale and colours of these compositions, I’m also exploring the concept of what might make a piece of artwork feminine or male.

My intention is not to depict reality but to nudge people to question and reconsider it.
