As the title suggests the painting is about the circle of life. the beginning and the end and the continuing....The eggs have been part of my collection from various birds that have hatched and became companion pets, or others that didnt survive. the speckled feather that floats above the circular composition is the remaining feather saved from my pet pea hen "Pearl "who came to my window one day asking for help. she only had one leg and I nurtured her for many months. The painting is a reflection on the joy of nurturing , and being grateful for the simple pleasures in life. The willow pattern bowl represents my British background and reminds me of my childhood .

Painted during lockdown . The blackberries were still fruiting in November due to climate change and the insects are a part of my collection found in the greenhouse or elsewhere over the years. I set up a composition of small intricate organic objects on an old vintage chinese inspired plate . The pinky colours of the plate picked up the delicate hues of the berries. The painting represents how i felt being isolated for a year and a half. Longing to meet up with friends again.Hence the title "The Gathering" The insects represent changes and what i missed during that time. One dead ,one flying, one landing, one leaving.

Broken tulip

Painted during lockdown 2021.The flower is a Rembrandt tulip or "broken tulip" due to the unusual broken striped colours. I wanted to give this a double meaning as the tulip had now withered and almost broken at the stem. the flower is "bending over backwards"with its stalk weighing down on top of it. I found the trampled bee on the pavement and decided to give it new life on my painting. I gave it a crown (corona) and painted it just about to fall over the ledge of the hard broken brick ledge. My painting turned out to be rather more melancholy than expected but I hoped to show the delicacy fragility and beauty of the subject matter despite the symbolism of despair. The painting is meant to shed light on what matters in my world whilst it still exists in the now and to show my appreciation for lifes small pleaures.

November harvest

Berries were found in my garden still growing in November due to climate change. The tiny "paradise apples" were found on the roadside. Composed and painted on an old cracked Swedish plate and placed on 2 old bricks salvaged from the chicken house. I needed some comfort from what was going on in the world and to search for beauty and hope in whatever was around me in the "now". The dead fly is a reminder of a shocking newspaper headline "People dropping like flies" during the Corona epidemic.
