Vila Vasconcelos is an abandonned property in Sintra near where I live in Portugal.  The theme is one I have been returning to over Lockdown.  I discovered this building and its property when my son was getting tested for Covid next door so thought it a rather poignant reminder of things not quite being right anymore.   The details and general design of the building (circa 1930-40) are typical of Portuguese suburban architecture of the time.  The degree of delapidation and nature's taking over made it stand out.  Who lived there, what happened and what will happen to the place come together in a sense of wonder.  I used collage mostly of transparent papers I dye, photo transfer, rafia and paint.  The glazed window with house name in decorative tiles became the main feature and the tree now overgrown into weeds links them together.

Amorzinho & Coyote

collage, etching and paint

h: 30 w: 30 d: 3 (cms).

This artwork centers on a ruined building on the Colares coast which had a typical Portuguese title meaning little loved one.  I chose to keep the tones mostly black and white and added a translucent etching of a coyote I had made years ago which I feel lends itself to the passage of time, loneliness and even trespassing onto a once charming ocean fronted house.
