Cast Marble

h: 95 w: 175 d: 60 (cms).

The four children each have hobby horses refering to the four horsemen of the apocalypse. They were sculpted in clay in 2019 and cast in 2020. I was mainly thinking about climate change and our collective responsiblity. None of us can escape the times which we are born into. Since the outbrake of the pandemic, I feel they are even more relevant.

Cast marble + digital print canvas

h: 93 w: 200 d: 55 (cms).

Two children are playing out-side, being the dynamic duo. However Robin has taken the leadership role, Batman demoted to side-kick. Batman is not happy, reluctant to stay in the game. He sees himsef as the cooler of the two, with lace up shoes ,the natural leader with better ideas. This work was made after  Britain narrowly voted to leave the EU. This was seen by many as a victory for the under-dog. They are also about human nature , the need to win, inevitably there will be losers. Being marble they referance classical sculpture, where I feel the first super hero's, Gods with extra powers where depicted.

Cast marble, inlayed WW1 silk postcards

h: 105 w: 38 d: 28 (cms).

A male figure with inlayed images copied from WW1 emproiderd silk postcards. These postcards were mainly sent by soilders fighting in Europe during the fist world war. My idea was to highlight the neverending problems around nationality. The embroidered cards where beauifully made, and most of the imagery is about the unity of the allied nations and the fight  for peace in Europe. Nationality now even more than ever is a thorny topic, especially in Britain with Brexit  and it's relationship with the rest of Europe.

cast jesmonite

h: 90 w: 60 d: 38 (cms).

A small child, with out stretched arms, eyes shut, wearing a protective suit. The word breathe written across the surface of the piece in different languages. This work was a direct response to the pandemic. I chose the word breathe as covid mainly effects the lungs. It is a sort of prayer for humanity. Shortly after I finished the work the George Floyd incident happened in America. I made the work red, as the child is non racial. It is about equality, everyone needs the freedom to breathe freely.
